Skeletal Specimen of the Bryde’s Whale

The skeletal specimen of the Bryde’s whale (Balaenoptera brydei), which measures 13.5 meters in length and can reach 14 meters with its caudal fin. If restored to its original form, it would weigh as much as 20 tons. In 2002, the whale was found dead on a beach in Qingdao. In order to preserve its skeleton completely, experts from the Ocean University of Qingdao strictly followed the preparation procedure and took a whole year to produce the astonishing skeleton, which is also the largest and most complete Bryde’s whale skeleton specimen kept in the domestic marine museum.
