Chinese sturgeon (Acipenser sinensis) first appeared 140 million years ago. It is known as a “living fossil” and is the oldest fish in the world. They can reach up to 5 m in length and weigh up to 600 kg. Chinese sturgeon has migratory habits, was born in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and grows in the sea. During the breeding period each year, they return to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River to reproduce. Due to environmental pollution and human overfishing and killing, the population of Chinese sturgeon has decreased dramatically. Today, the Chinese sturgeon has been a key protection of wildlife in our country, so it is also known as the “panda in the water”.
